Psalm 91:9-13

‘If’ we make the Lord our refuge, ‘if’ we make the Most High our shelter……We need to understand that the promises of God are contingent upon our obedience to God. The benefits of the Kingdom are available to law-abiding citizens. Tither’s rights are available to those who actually tithe. Protection is available to those who ‘make’ the Lord their refuge, the place they run to when in trouble.
Where do we run to when we are in trouble? Some run to alcohol, some run to drugs, some run to the casino hoping to strike it big, but you have to know that that house is stacked against you, unlike God’s house. These things are of no lasting help and will only worsen and prolong our difficulties.
‘If’ we make the Lord our refuge…..James, the half-brother of Jesus had this to say in James 1:5-8:
“If you need wisdom, ask our generous God, and he will give it to you. He will not rebuke you for asking. But when you ask him, be sure that your faith is in God alone. Do not waver, for a person with divided loyalty is as unsettled as a wave of the sea that is blown and tossed by the wind. Such people should not expect to receive anything from the Lord. Their loyalty is divided between God and the world, and they are unstable in everything they do.”

If we need wisdom, then ask God and have faith in Him alone.
James goes on further to say in James 4:2-3 that we don’t have what we want because we don’t ask God for it; and even when we do ask God for it, we ask with the wrong motives wanting only what will give us pleasure.
God is not obligated to bless us and is not some spiritual Santa that we run to as a last resort. He should always be our first resort!
To receive the benefits of the King, we must be in good standing with the King! Favor follows the faithful!
